Support for Local Authorities
The Sure Start, Extended Schools and Childcare Group works with, challenges and supports Local Authorities to ensure that an inclusive approach which values diversity is embedded in the planning and delivery of services. A number of indicators within the annual self assessment tool used as a basis for the annual review meeting between each Local Authority and the Sure Start, Extended Schools and Childcare Group explore this. For example:
- Sure Start aims and objectives are sensitive to cultural, linguistic, religious and ethnic differences taking account of issues of disability and special needs
- The Local Authority has identified under-represented groups (e.g. minority ethnic and disability groups) in consultations and taken action to ensure their equal representation.
- The Local Authority has analysed demographic and service user data
- Memberships of appropriate agencies are engaged with underrepresented groups on joint planning committees or local implementation groups.
