Local activity driving forward social and emotional development policy
A wide range of interventions are being implemented locally within Sure Start local programmes and Children's Centres to improve social and emotional development among disadvantaged families. Activities include:
- Parenting courses and workshops for parents and carers to help parents understand children's behaviour and to learn how best to respond to their children.
- Home visiting of families experiencing difficulties to help increase the confidence and independence of the family.
- Bringing parents together to share experiences and help support each other.
- Health visitor drop-in clinic providing developmental advice including behavioural difficulties and changes in sleeping and eating habits.
- Early identification of parent/child relationship difficulties.
- Locally produced booklets on social and emotional development topics.
