Local Activity Driving Forward Physical Activity in Sure Start:
A wide range of interventions is being implemented locally through Sure Start to increase levels of physical activity among pre-school children. Activities include:
- Taking steps to highlight the importance of physical activity amongst the early years and how this, as well as a good diet, can have a positive influence on obesity.
- Running baby massage sessions to support the healthy development of babies' joints and to build a close bond between the parents and child.
- As part of child care encouraging supervised play with toys and games both indoors and outdoors.
- Running toddler gym/tumble tots sessions to improve social skills, balance and hand-eye co-ordination
- Using Top Tots and Top Start to promote the development of early movements skills and physical literacy within the home or nursery environment.
