Sustainability
Sure Start aims to make childcare affordable for parents, and sustainable for providers. If parents cannot afford the childcare that is available, then it will be of no help them - this will not help unemployed parents to enter employment, those wishing to study or train to do so, and teenage parents to continue in education. The Government provides a variety of forms of support with the cost of childcare for various groups, and it is important that local authorities and others are able to promote these effectively:
A key part of the Government’s commitment to improving the sustainability of early years education and childcare providers, funding has been provided for a Business Support Officer (BSO) to work in each of the 150 local authorities. Funding will also support a National Programme, Business Success for Childcare, which will deliver business training and support to childcare organisations and Business Support Officers.
