The new Integrated Childcare Information System - iChIS
For those of you new to childcare recruitment, ChIS is the database system that manages childcare data between the local Children’s Information Services and the ChildcareLink website
The next release of the ChIS database includes a number of new modules, this new system is known as iChIS and installation of this system will begin at a local level in late October:
The iChIS database includes the following functionality:
- Core Childcare Database: Maintenance and management of childcare provision and enquires.
- Staffing: Stores information on all members of staff in Early Years settings and identifies which setting they work for.
- Training/Qualifications: Management of available training courses, enabling the tracking of attendance and qualifications attained by staff and records on-going training needs.
- Recruitment/Retention: Monitors staff recruitment and retention; facilitates easier advertising of job vacancies and monitoring of recruitment campaigns.
- Course Booking: Facilitates the management of the training course booking process; links to Training/Qualifications module.
- Pathways to Registration: Tracks childcare providers from initial contact through to registration; facilitates support throughout the process and identifies reasons for withdrawal at all stages.
iChIS Update
85 Local Authorities have already registered to take up the above new modules and we are aiming for 57 of these installations to be completed this financial year (to 31.03.05).
If your local authority is interested in registering for the new modules or if you would like more information about the ChIS database generally, please visit Integrated Childcare Information System website or email iChiS - Opportunity Links
The role of Children’s Information Service
Local authorities are funded by the Sure Start, Extended Schools and Childcare Group to make a Children’s Information Service (CIS) available in their area. There are 145 Children’s Information Services operating in England, providing parents with up to date information on the availability of nursery education and childcare. Children’s Information Services also play a key role in providing information to local authorities and their Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships to support planning and evaluation of progress against delivery targets.
The Sure Start, Extended Schools and Childcare Group coordinates a range of support for Children’s Information Services, including advisers in each of the Government regions, regional network meetings and training courses and workshops.
