Workforce survey

Childcare and Early Years Providers Survey

The survey collects information from childcare and early years providers on the key characteristics of the provider, the number of places and children attending, staff characteristics and qualifications, training, recruitment and retention issues and income.

From 2006 onwards the following eight childcare and early years settings have been included in the survey:

  • Childminders
  • Children’s centres
  • Full-day childcare
  • Out-of-school childcare
  • Sessional childcare
  • Nursery schools
  • Primary schools with nursery and reception classes
  • Primary schools with reception but no nursery classes
