OECD

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

OECD carry out a series of single country and thematic reviews of several countries on key policy issues. Some of these are relevant to early years and childcare, with the UK actively participating in these reviews. Further information on OECD can be found through their website.

Early Childhood Education and Care Thematic Review

In 1998, OECD lauched a thematic review of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Policy involving 12 countries, including the UK. This culminated in a comparative report ‘Starting Strong’ published in 2001, available from the OECD. Individual country reports are also available here. The review continued with a second stage of countries including the UK, and the final report Starting Strong II was published in September 2006.
